A gaol at Fisherton can be traced from 1421, and since the sheriff is known to have had an office (scaccarium) there in 1485 it was probably an adjunct to it. (fn. 51) Old Salisbury gaol, however, continued for a while to be used concurrently with Fisherton, and it was not until 1512 that Fisherton secured a monopoly.
